Mentoring Opportunities

Mentoring relationships can take many forms. They can be a one-to-one connection in which one individual gives advice and guidance to another. The frequency of contact of the mentor-advisee can be as frequent or sporadic as the parties determine. It is not unusual for an individual to have more than one mentor.

Other individuals may desire more informal contacts to ask occasional questions or to network with others in an area of interest. Since many DMS alumni actually live and work at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth Medical School or in the area, mentoring and networking relations can be readily established. In addition, students can also benefit from contact with medical residents in a number of specialties who interact with students via student interest groups.

For the DMS student interested in either a personal, one-to-

one association with a mentor or the student with a question or looking to network with DMS alumni in a particular specialty or geographic area, the Office of Alumni Relations can assist to connect you with alumni appropriate to your particular request or need.

To request a mentor or to make a networking connection, send a short note explaining your need to DMS.Alumni.Relations@dartmouth.edu (add "Mentoring Request" in the subject line) or call us at 603-653-0742. We expect students who are assigned an alumni mentor to inform the Alumni Relations Office or the Bridging Program to confirm whether or not a connection has been made.

Attention alumni: Many of you were previously listed as potential mentors. Help us to update our records. Send a short e-mail to let us know we can keep you on our roles as either a mentor or network contact.
