Overview

Biology, like many fields, has become inundated with massive amounts of data that can be mined for biological insights, disease mechanisms and therapeutic discovery. As the technology and means to analyze large amounts of data has matured, the increasing availability of these data sets has made the use of "Big Data" in the life sciences both essential and practical in solving a wide range of scientific challenges. The availability of such data provides opportunities for biological and medical research but also raises new challenges for data mining and analysis.

In support of the importance and growth of this research, we are seeking to engage and foster discussion with faculty and student researchers across disciplines who are interested in exploring how big data is reshaping the way we conduct biomedical research. Entitled ‘Frontiers and Future Directions of Healthcare Research’, this symposium is a showcase of cutting edge applications of big data, as well as highlighting the ethics and modern concerns in the face of rapid change. Please join us to learn more about the evolving role of Big Data in today's biomedical research.
