Students in ASY are classified as full-time, non-resident students in good academic standing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"633\">ASY proposals must go through an official approval process to ensure that the planned scholarly work meets institutional standards for rigor, structure, and educational value.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"635\" data-end=\"638\" \/>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1ne5rst\" data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"680\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"678\">Who does this policy apply to?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"881\">This policy applies to all Geisel medical students. The current ASY policy applies to the Class of 2028 and later (students completing their M3\/Phase 2 year in the 2026\u20132027 academic year and beyond).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"1163\">Students in the Class of 2027 or earlier, or those who completed their M3\/Phase 2 year prior to 2026\u20132027, will continue to follow the previous version of the ASY policy. Students who already have an approved ASY under the prior policy will also remain under those original terms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1468\">The ASY supports students in pursuing meaningful scholarly work, including research, academic projects, and other structured educational experiences. It provides dedicated time for intellectual exploration and professional development beyond the standard curriculum.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1600\">This experience is designed to strengthen students\u2019 academic growth, critical thinking, and contributions to medicine and science.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1605\" \/>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"d3au97\" data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1640\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1611\" data-end=\"1638\">Accreditation Alignment<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1965\">The ASY policy aligns with <strong data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1736\">LCME Standard 3.2 \u2013 Community of Scholars\/Research Opportunities<\/strong>, which emphasizes that medical education should occur in an environment that fosters intellectual inquiry and provides students with opportunities, encouragement, and support to engage in faculty research and scholarly activity.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"18kkwg7\" data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"1988\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"1986\">Learn More<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2096\">To learn more about ASY requirements, eligibility, and the approval process, students are encouraged to review the details carefully before submitting their application. The fellowship provides a $35,000 grant (including a $32,000 \u00a0stipend) and offers structured mentorship, research experience, and career \u00a0development under the guidance of Dr. Charles R. The fellowship provides a $43,000 grant ($40,000 stipend and $3,000 for research expenses) and supports full-time research with faculty mentorship.
