What is the AAMC-OSR?<\/span><\/h2>\n

As medical students at Geisel, we are all members of the AAMC. The AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) <\/a>represents the 151 American and 17 Canadian accredited MD-granting medical schools. The AAMC is responsible for ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service), the Match, and VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities \u2013 for away rotations). It also has several councils comprised of deans, faculty, students, and residents that focus on issues surrounding student affairs, medical education, inclusion and diversity, student debt, admissions, legislative affairs, and more.<\/p>\n

The OSR (Organization of Student Representatives)<\/a> is made up of representatives from each medical school and shares student ideas across institutions while representing the interests of the medical student body to the academic community.<\/p>\n

OSR at Geisel<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Geisel School of Medicine is represented by four to five active student representatives (e.g., generally one per class), including one primary student representative at the AAMC-OSR. Representatives work closely with the Deans and Student Government to discuss the interests of students at Geisel. OSRs can connect in person with peers from across the country and within our region at the AAMC Annual Meeting in the fall and the Spring Regional Meeting. Our representatives tend to be actively involved in the organization, pursuing liaison, regional, and national leadership positions when possible.<\/p>\n

Through the OSR, Geisel representatives are able to inform local conversations with perspectives gained from colleagues across the country. Similarly, they serve as a conduit to bring important Geisel-led initiatives and innovations to the national stage. OSR representatives also work to ensure that resources created by the AAMC and OSR for medical students are readily accessible. Applications occur during the first year for each class through a competitive application and interview process, and applicants are selected by the current senior Geisel representative(s) as well as the Deans.<\/p>\n
