{"id":231,"date":"2019-03-28T13:59:16","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T17:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geiselmed2.dartmouth.edu\/radiology\/?page_id=231"},"modified":"2019-03-28T13:59:16","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T17:59:16","slug":"steroid-premedication-regimens","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/radiology\/policies-protocols\/policies-guidelines\/steroid-premedication-regimens\/","title":{"rendered":"Steroid Premedication Regimens"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Regimens for the prophylaxis of contrast reactions<\/h3>\n<p><b>Oral (to be used for outpatients)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prednisone 50 mg PO 13 hours, 7 hours, and 1 hour prior to contrast\n<li>Benadryl* 50 mg PO 1 hour prior to contrast<br \/><span class=\"smalltext\">*sedating; patient must have driver<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Intravenous (to be used for ED and Inpatients)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Methylprednisolone sodium succinate (e.g., Solu-Medrol&reg;) 40 mg IV immediately, and then every 4 hours until contrast medium administration, plus diphenhydramine 50 mg IV 1 hour before contrast medium administration.<br \/> - or - <\/li>\n<li>Hydrocortisone sodium succinate (e.g., Solu-Cortef&reg;) 200 mg IV immediately, and then every 4 hours until contrast medium administration, plus diphenhydramine 50 mg IV 1 hour before contrast medium administration.
