Feel free to email Dr. Barnacle with requests for shadowing.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/aarad.memberclicks.net\/assets\/Affinity_Groups\/AMSER\/Educator_Resources\/Residency-Guide\/FINAL.%20July%202024-%20AMSER%20Guide%20V.13.pdf\">AMSER Guide to Applying to Radiology Residency <\/a>is an excellent resource for students considering radiology as a career.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Elective recommendations for radiology candidates<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Diagnostic Radiology<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medicine or Surgery sub-internship<\/li>\n<li>Radiology 502 elective (4 weeks, comprehensive, with excellent didactics)<\/li>\n<li>A subspecialty radiology elective (e.g. Women's Imaging, IR, Neuroradiology, MSK Radiology)<\/li>\n<li>Other non-radiology elective options (students should make sure they review all imaging on patients):\n<ul>\n<li>Any medicine or surgery subspecialty that includes significant imaging, e.g. GI, pulmonology, urology, orthopedics.<\/li>\n<li>Pathology<\/li>\n<li>Forensic pathology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Outside rotations are not necessary for radiology but should be considered if a specific elective is available or students are particularly interested in a specific program<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/md-program\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2020\/12\/radiology-diagnostic.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Example block schedule<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Interventional Radiology<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surgery sub-internship<\/li>\n<li>Radiology 502 elective (4 weeks, comprehensive, with excellent didactics)<\/li>\n<li>A subspecialty radiology elective in Interventional Radiology<\/li>\n<li>Other non-radiology elective options (students should make sure they review all imaging on patients):\n<ul>\n<li>Surgery subspecialties e.g. vascular, urology, thoracic<\/li>\n<li>Anesthesia<\/li>\n<li>ICU<\/li>\n<li>Emergency medicine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Outside rotations are not necessary for radiology but should be considered if a specific elective is available or students are particularly interested in a specific program<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/md-program\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2020\/12\/radiology-interventional.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Example block schedule<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Career advising meetings<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Dr. McNulty meets with all students (live or virtually) who are considering radiology as a career.\u00a0 Students pursuing this path will meet with her periodically up to and through the application process.\u00a0 She reviews personal statements, CVs, applications, and rank lists.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Radiology Interest Group career introduction<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Radiology Interest Group has an introductory session in September or October each year to discuss radiology as a career.\u00a0 This open form session enables students to ask questions of faculty and residents. Specialty spotlight sessions (run by the Career Advising Dept at Geisel) are designed for M1 and M2 students to learn about careers in various specialties, so be sure to go to the radiology one.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Meet the Experts Dinner<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In April, Dr. McNulty or Dr Lewis hold a dinner at one of their houses with any students considering radiology (geared towards students in clinical clerkships, but any student who is strongly interested is welcome to attend).\u00a0 The recently matched fourth-year students, several radiology residents and one or more of the residency program directors attend and provide useful insight into the application process.\u00a0 The matched students and the residents are now the 'experts' and can share a lot of useful information about applications, interviews, and programs in an informal setting.\u00a0 All food and beverages provided!\u00a0 This is always a fun event and very informative.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Apps of Steel Webinar<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In July, Dr. Lewis holds a multi-institutional webinar with students and program directors to guide how to optimize your applications and interviews for radiology.\u00a0 This is an interactive session with program directors from many institutions giving their opinions and preferences.\u00a0 The session is a mixture of a didactic presentation and Q&amp;A.\u00a0 The session is recorded annually and made available to any students who request it.\u00a0 This is a very high-yield session for student applicants!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Enrichment electives<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are two enrichment elective opportunities available for Pre-Clinical students, to give them some experience in and exposure to clinical radiology. These are described in more detail <a href=\"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/radiology\/radiology-education-at-geisel\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00693e\">Shadowing opportunities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If any students wishes to shadow residents or faculty, they can contact <a href=\"mailto:nancy.j.mcnulty@hitchcock.org\">Dr. McNulty<\/a>, or\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:brian.d.barnacle@hitchcock.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Barnacle <\/a>who can facilitate this.
