{"id":3655,"date":"2022-10-06T09:03:29","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T13:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/ofa\/?p=3655"},"modified":"2022-10-06T09:03:29","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T13:03:29","slug":"nih-diversity-r01-mechanism-webinar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/ofa\/2022\/10\/06\/nih-diversity-r01-mechanism-webinar\/","title":{"rendered":"NIH Diversity R01 Mechanism Webinar"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"main-content\">Novel R01 Seeks New and \u201cAt-Risk\u201d Investigators from Diverse Backgrounds<\/h1>\n<article role=\"article\">\n<div>\n<p class=\"block--add-info__paragraph\">Funding News Edition:\u00a0<strong>October 05, 2022<\/strong><br \/>\n<a id=\"anch_356\" href=\"https:\/\/www.niaid.nih.gov\/grants-contracts\/funding-news\/2022-10-05\" data-content=\"body-anchor-see-more-articles-in-this-edition\">See more articles in this edition<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>NIH and NIAID have a longstanding interest in diversity, as research shows that diverse teams working together and capitalizing on innovative ideas and distinct perspectives outperform homogenous teams.\u00a0Recent evidence demonstrates that having a diverse scientific and public health workforce benefits research on issues such as COVID-19, HIV, and asthma, which disproportionately impact underrepresented groups.<\/p>\n<p>In our new funding opportunity announcement\u00a0<a id=\"anch_357\" href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/pa-files\/PAR-22-241.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-content=\"body-anchor-niaid-research-opportunities-for-new-and-&quot;at-risk&quot;-investigators-to-promote-workforce-diversity-(r01,-clinical-trial-optional)\">NIAID Research Opportunities for New and \"At-Risk\" Investigators to Promote Workforce Diversity (R01, Clinical Trial Optional)<\/a><a id=\"anch_358\" class=\"ext-link-icon\" href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/pa-files\/par-22-241.html\" aria-label=\"External Link\"><\/a>, eligible individuals are invited to submit investigator-initiated research project grant applications within the scope of NIAID's scientific areas of focus, e.g., microbiology and infectious diseases; AIDS and AIDS-related research; immunology; allergy; transplantation; and emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible, the principal investigator(s) (PIs) must (each) be one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a id=\"anch_359\" href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/policy\/early-investigators\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-content=\"body-anchor-new-investigator\">New Investigator<\/a><a id=\"anch_360\" class=\"ext-link-icon\" href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/policy\/early-investigators\/index.htm\" aria-label=\"External Link\"><\/a>\u2014have not competed successfully for substantial, independent NIH funding.<\/li>\n<li><a id=\"anch_361\" href=\"https:\/\/nexus.od.nih.gov\/all\/2020\/02\/07\/whats-happening-with-at-risk-investigators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-content=\"body-anchor-at-risk-investigator\">At-Risk Investigator<\/a><a id=\"anch_362\" class=\"ext-link-icon\" href=\"https:\/\/nexus.od.nih.gov\/all\/2020\/02\/07\/whats-happening-with-at-risk-investigators\/\" aria-label=\"External Link\"><\/a>\u2014have had substantial, independent NIH funding as a PI and, unless successful in securing a substantial research grant award in the current fiscal year, will have no substantial research grant funding in the following fiscal year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups, are encouraged to work with their institutions to apply for support through this initiative.
