A climate of intellectual honesty mandates that all scholars have an obligation to conduct research in a manner reflecting these principles.<\/p>\n<p>If it should appear that an incident of academic dishonesty may have occurred in at a NH-INBRE Partner Institution, that Partner will take the lead in the process according to their Misconduct Policy. The Partner Institution will inform Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth that an allegation has been made and keep Geisel informed during the process. Geisel will provide assistance if requested.<\/p>\n<p>Research misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research or in reporting research results, according to \u201cPublic Health Service Policies on Research Misconduct,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/ori.dhhs.gov\/documents\/42_cfr_parts_50_and_93_2005.pdf\">42 CFR, Part 93<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fabrication is defined as making up data or results and recording or reporting them.<\/li>\n<li>Falsification is defined as manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record<\/li>\n<li>Plagiarism is defined as appropriating another person\u2019s ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A finding of research misconduct requires the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There must be a significant departure from accepted practices of the relevant research community.<\/li>\n<li>The misconduct must be committed intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly.<\/li>\n<li>The allegation must be proven by a preponderance of the evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Research misconduct does not include honest error or differences of opinion.
