{"id":7354,"date":"2016-08-31T15:26:04","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T19:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/news\/?p=7354"},"modified":"2016-09-21T11:45:22","modified_gmt":"2016-09-21T15:45:22","slug":"fy2016-fundraising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/news\/2016\/fy2016-fundraising\/","title":{"rendered":"$37 Million Sets New Fundraising Record for Geisel School of Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strong support from donors propelled the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth to record-breaking levels of philanthropic support for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Receipts for the annual fund, student scholarships, research, the Williamson Translational Research Building, and other purposes exceeded $37 million in FY16. This total\u2014which includes gifts received but not pledges of future support\u2014surpassed the year\u2019s fundraising goal by 25 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the current funding climate, philanthropic support to ensure the vibrancy of our programs is more important than ever,\u201d said Duane Compton, interim dean of the Geisel School of Medicine. \u201cThe impact that our donors are making to support our mission in education, research and discovery cannot be overstated. \u00a0We are grateful for their continued support of our school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Charitable giving highlights for the year include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gifts to support student scholarships at Geisel totaled more than $1.57 million, including a $1.2 million scholarship endowment gift from Thomas Kosasa, MD DC\u201967, MED\u201969.<\/li>\n<li>The Fund for Geisel raised $953,105, exceeding the goal of $800,000 by 19 percent.<\/li>\n<li>Endowment giving at Geisel totaled $6,617,569, more than double the goal of $2.9 million.<\/li>\n<li>Peter and Susan Williamson\u2019s generous $20 million pledge in support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dartmed.dartmouth.edu\/spring16\/html\/closing_the_gap\/\" target=\"_blank\">Williamson Translational Research Building<\/a> was completed.
