Abstract awards are given to top-scoring abstracts following rigorous peer review—this year 49 abstract winners were selected from more than 2,200 submissions.

“This recognition is unexpected, and I'm so grateful because it allowed me to share my research on a national level,” Marshall says. “One of my favorite parts of science has always been sharing results and the discussions they spark; the ASTRO conference was a natural setting for research cross-pollination. It's also fulfilling to know other scientists are excited about my work and think it's important enough to share with others.”

While pursuing her doctorate in molecular and systems biology under Aaron McKenna’s mentorship, Marshall’s research centered on creating CRISPR-based dynamic lineage tracing systems to explain cell relationships in heterogeneous tumors such as glioblastoma and breast cancer. By understanding these relationships, she explored patterns of treatment response and resistance. Characterizing these cellular responses and relationships is essential for advancing cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes.

After completing her MD at Geisel, she plans to pursue a career in radiation oncology that integrates research and patient care.

Founded in 1958, ASTRO’s mission is to advance the practice of radiation oncology by promoting excellence in patient care, providing opportunities for educational and professional development, promoting research and disseminating research results, and representing radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving health care environment.

The organization is also dedicated to improving patient care through professional education and training, support for clinical practice and health policy standards, advancement of science through research, and advocacy.

Abigail Marshall Guarini’26, MED’28 is among those who received the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) 2026 Annual Meeting Abstract Award during ASTRO’s annual conference this past weekend in Boston, MA.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1
175,1075,1365
post-36650","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-breast-cancer","tag-radiation-oncology","tag-student-award","author-12
["GET
