Jay Buckey, a professor of medicine and director of the Space Medicine Innovations Laboratory at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine, and section chief of Hyperbaric Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, was recently awarded the Albert R. Behnke Award by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).<\/p>\n
Given at the UHMS\u2019 annual meeting, the award recognizes an individual\u2019s outstanding scientific contributions to advances in the undersea or hyperbaric biomedical field.<\/p>\n
One of Dr. Buckey\u2019s contributions to hyperbaric medicine has been the development of the Multicenter Registry for Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment. This registry collects consistent outcome data from patients treated with hyperbaric oxygen. It started at Dartmouth Hitchcock in 2011 and has since grown into an international database spanning 33 centers and more than 15,000 entries.
