Photo by Eli Burakian D'00<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTraining the next generation of physicians is an honor and I am grateful for Dean Compton\u2019s partnership in building this department\u2014working alongside him has been a remarkable and rewarding experience,\u201d Borges says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough strategic planning, we have strengthened our department\u2019s identity and created an academic home for medical educators, scholars, and educational specialists that aligns with our school\u2019s mission and needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This ethos supports Geisel\u2019s community of educators and enhances cooperative interaction leading to innovative medical education experiences, educational scholarship, and resources for medical educator faculty development and research productivity. Strong collaborative partnerships with Geisel\u2019s Office of Educational Affairs, the school\u2019s foundational and clinical departments, as well as those at Dartmouth Health, are key to the department\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very pleased that Dr. Borges will continue to lead our department of medical education,\u201d Compton says. \u201cShe has been outstanding in leading the strategic plan of the department and has successfully recruited new faculty and supported faculty promotions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under Borges\u2019 mission forward leadership, department faculty are recognized nationally, regionally, and locally for their expertise and accomplishments as educators and researchers in academic medicine. And Borges, a health psychologist with more than 25 years of experience in medical education, recently received the <a href=\"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/news\/2024\/geisel-school-of-medicines-nicole-borges-receives-the-2024-merrell-flair-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Educational Affairs Merrell Flair Award in Medical Education<\/a> for her contributions to medical education research, scholarship, and the medical education community.<\/p>\n<p>On the home front, Geisel recognizes department faculty for their excellence in teaching and scholarship with annual awards, such as distinguished lecturer, best pre-clinical educator, and faculty awards for those who prioritize a culture of respect and care while advancing the mission of the school through their work with students.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"span3\" style=\"float: right\"><p><span style=\"color: #008000\">\u201cThrough strategic planning, we have strengthened our department\u2019s identity and created an academic home for medical educators, scholars, and educational specialists that aligns with our school\u2019s mission and needs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #999999\">- Nicole J.
