Enthusiastically welcomed to Geisel School of Medicine by Taryn Weinstein, EdD, director of student life, the MD Class of 2029 is spending orientation week getting to know the medical school community and each other.
Duane Compton, PhD, dean of the medical school, and Sonia Chimienti, MD, dean of educational affairs, extended their warm welcome and acknowledged the new students are in good hands as they begin their medical training, and Geisel has the resources necessary to guide and support everyone’s well-being and academic success. Roshini-Pinto Powell, MD, associate dean and chair of admissions, and director of the On Doctoring program, along with Tara Cunninghan, EdD, MS, associate dean of student life, familiarized the students with Geisel’s commitment to flourishing in medicine through its new program focused on building practical wisdom, character, and professional values. Collaboration and teamwork were highlighted as an essential part of Geisel’s medical education program.
In addition to an introduction to the nuts and bolts of medical education, students enjoyed multiple opportunities to socialize, such as informal small group dinners, lunch and learning collaboratives, coffee get-togethers, and a scavenger hunt.
This week of congenial kinship and support sets the foundation for the new medical students to flourish during their time at Geisel and beyond. The first-year medical students will officially start their classes Monday, Aug. 4.
