Guideline Leads to Reduction in Opioid Prescribing After Surgery – General Surgery News

Read article - Richard Barth Jr., professor of surgery and the chief of general surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, is quoted about his research and a recent study, which provides guidelines for reducing opioid prescriptions for pain management following surgery. Barth says, “As surgeons, we need to take ownership and responsibility for the opioids we prescribe. By doing this, I believe we are going to minimize the number of patients with repeated opioid prescriptions and even potentially with opioid dependence and overdose.”
