The Dartmouth flag is flown at half-staff today (12\/5\/22) and tomorrow (12\/6\/22) in memory of Vicki\u00a0Sayarath, Research Director, Department of Epidemiology who passed away on November 14, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear colleagues,<\/span><\/p>\n

I am deeply saddened to share news that Vicki Sayarath, a research scientist and the research director for the Department of Epidemiology at Geisel, died on November 14.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Duane Compton's note to Geisel students, faculty and staff made clear, Vicki's work touched many lives and her support of Epidemiology's research programs was instrumental in helping that department grow and succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vicki joined Geisel in 2006 as a grant writer. She quickly became an expert in research regulation and compliance and cared deeply about her work. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont in 1983 before going on to receive her Registered Dietician Degree from Harvard and MPH from the University of Minnesota in 1992.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vicki will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and the impact she had on those who had the pleasure of working with her will surely stay with them forever. You can read more about Vicki's personal passions and the attributes that endeared her to many in her\u00a0full obituary<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we mourn this loss together, our sincerest condolences go out to Vicki's husband, John, her daughters, Maya and Melanie, and her close circle of family and friends at this most difficult time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dear All,<\/span><\/p>\n

I regret sharing the painful news I received that Vicki Sayarath passed away. There are no words to express my sorrows and sympathies to all of you who knew and worked closely with Vicki.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vicki was hired into the Section of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in 2006 as a grant writer when we were planning our first training grant \u2013 the NCI R25.\u00a0 With that success behind her, she went on to oversee the Children\u2019s Center Formative and Full Center grants, ECHO, and three Phases of the COBRE grant submissions.\u00a0 She became an expert in research regulation and compliance and cared deeply that our work be shared with communities and that their voices be heard.\u00a0 She was also known as a caring mom to Maya and Melanie who worked in our lab as students, and the loving wife to John Sayarath who teaches at St. Johnsbury Academy. Vicki served as a chaperone for John and his students in his native Laos, visiting health care centers there and in Cambodia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vicki attended the University of Vermont as an undergrad, received her Registered Dietician Degree from Harvard, and MPH from the University of Minnesota, sharing her immense nutritional knowledge with our team to understand the composition of the infant diet.\u00a0 The impacts of Vicki\u2019s efforts on our Department and research are innumerable.\u00a0 She will be so terribly missed as a colleague and friend.<\/span><\/p>\n
