The Department of Medical Education was formed in 2016 with a mission to enhance undergraduate medical education at Geisel. The formation of this new department represents a unique opportunity to bring together committed educators from across the institution to provide the highest quality, 21st century educational experience possible to our diverse medical class. As a part of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, we are committed to preparing students to function in our rapidly changing healthcare landscape. We believe that it is essential to train physicians to be a positive force in the evolution of systems based on value and informed choice and on principles of “the right care, for the right patient at the right time.”
In support of this mission, the department recognizes its responsibility to promote educational faculty development and communication across the medical school and medical center. In furtherance of this important aim, we are a major supporter of the missions of the Geisel’s Medical Education Committee (the faculty committee governing medical education). We also partner with Geisel’s Academy of Master Educators (GAME) in promotion of best practices in medical education across the spectrum.
The opportunities afforded by the department are many, including:
- supporting new educational programs and initiatives
- contributing to the evaluation of the success of our educational program and of our individual learners
- enhancing communication and disseminating best educational practices across the medical center
I am confident that with the support that has been shown by senior leadership and the remarkably high standards of our outstanding faculty and students, we will create an unparalleled environment for collaboration and growth!
