The Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth (HCID) is an immersive summer experience, designed for students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade who are curious about the future of health, medicine, and Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STREAM) careers. Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world exposure, students explore clinical and non-clinical pathways while gaining insight into how science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts, and mathematics shape today’s healthcare system. Along the way, participants build confidence, form meaningful connections, and enjoy an engaging residential college experience.

Format: Fully residential experience on Dartmouth's campus

Eligibility: Students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade

Experiences: College readiness, career readiness, mentorship, clinical simulations, anatomy and innovation labs

The Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth (HCID) is an immersive, residential summer program designed to introduce high school students to the dynamic and evolving world of health and STREAM careers. HCID exists to expand students’ awareness of the many disciplines that shape modern healthcare—from medicine and public health to robotics, engineering, and innovation.

Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and reflection, students gain clarity about their interests while building confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the future of health. HCID is not simply about career exploration—it is about cultivating purpose, professional identity, and belonging within the health and STREAM workforce.

HCID is designed for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who:

  • Are curious about healthcare, medicine, engineering, robotics, or public health
  • Enjoy solving problems and working with others
  • Want to explore clinical and non-clinical careers
  • Are looking for an immersive residential experience
  • Are eager to challenge themselves and grow

You do not need to know exactly what career you want to pursue. HCID is ideal for students who are exploring possibilities.

Students from rural communities, first-generation college backgrounds, and populations historically underrepresented in health and STREAM professions are especially encouraged to apply.
