Professional Interests

TEACHING, CLINICAL RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My teaching, clinical and research interests and activities have emphasized the following areas:

Clinical and teaching areas of focus Include:

I. The interface between psychiatry and primary medical care with special reference to outpatient medical practice settings.

II. Rural community-based general hospital consultation/ liaison psychiatry.

III. Geriatric psychiatry as practiced in rural settings with special reference to the continuum of care from home-based community services to the services provided by long-term care facilities.

IV. The practice of general psychiatry in rural settings in collaboration with the academic medical center, surrounding community mental health centers and other mental health providers.

Research areas include:

I. Clinical descriptive and outcome studies adapting approaches similar to the clinical practice-based research that has been undertaken by the Primary Care Cooperative Data Project within the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Northern New England.

II. Educational research to evaluate the effectiveness of specific teaching and training programs, with special reference to Medical Student education, as well as the clinical areas noted above.
