Biography
Dr. Wise is dually board certified in adult and pediatric Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, as well as Otology, Neurotology & Skull Base Surgery. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of ear and skull base disorders in both adults and children. His clinical interests include ear infections, hearing loss, dizziness, facial weakness, cochlear implants and acoustic neuromas.
Dr. Wise received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD, where he graduated with Honors. Following a Transitional Internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, he went on to attend U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon training at the Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, FL. Completing an obligated tour of duty before resuming his training, he assumed responsibilities as Department Head for Aviation Medicine at Naval Air Station, Fallon, NV, where he directed medical operations for the elite VFC-13 Fighter Adversary Group, Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (TOP GUN) and Search and Rescue.
Dr. Wise completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then assumed duties as Department Head for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, as well as Deputy Director of Surgical Services at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan. Following this second tour of duty, he completed his fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery at the prestigious Michigan Ear Institute in Farmington Hills, MI. At the completion of fellowship training, he returned to the Otolaryngology Department at Naval Medical Center San Diego where he served as Division Chief, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery; Director, Department of Defense Spatial Orientation Center; Executive Committee of the Medical Staff; and Physician Advisor for the Navy for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement.
Following his selection to the rank of Captain (O-6), Dr. Wise retired from the Navy after 20 years of decorated service. He currently serves as staff physician in the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and as Assistant Professor in Surgery at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine.
Dr. Wise is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), the American Neurotology Society (ANS), the New England Otolaryngological Society (NEOS), the Society of Military Otolaryngologists (SOMO), the Eustachian Tube Study Group, and the American Cochlear Implant Alliance (ACIA). He also serves, or has served on a number of national committees. He has been the principal investigator for numerous clinical studies, including those involving hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, traumatic brain injury, and auditory implants. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for multiple prestigious journals within his areas of expertise. His scholarly pursuits have led to invited presentations in regional, national, and international specialty forums, and he has been honored with several research awards for his work.
