Biography
Cornel N. Stanciu, M.D., C.P.E., M.R.O. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and the Director of Addiction Services at New Hampshire Hospital.
As an Addiction Psychiatrist, Dr. Stanciu is involved in clinical care, research, and policy concerning services and treatments for people with addictive disorders. At the state level he served on the Therapeutic Cannabis Monitoring Oversight Board, and was appointed by the governor to the Board of Medicine’s Medical Review Subcommittee. Nationally, he is involved with several organizations, currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry as the Newsletter Editor. He earned prestigious fellowship credentials from both the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a former Ruth Fox and Governors Institute on Substance Abuse scholar.
Throughout his career, Dr. Stanciu played an active role in academia having published over 40 papers on themes related to addictive disorders, particularly new psychoactive drugs, such as Kratom, and has received multiple awards for excellence in research and clinical care. His research was presented at numerous conferences, through live webinars, and cited in literature.
Furthermore, Dr. Stanciu’ s devotion to the field and commitment to downstream knowledge dissemination is exemplified through his most recently published book titled “Deciphering the Addicted Brain: A Guide to understanding and Helping a Loved One Towards Recovery”.
