Publication Alert | Continuous DNA methylation deconvolution-based surrogate for B-cell differentiation state in chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Researchers from four Dartmouth departments—the Department of Epidemiology, Dartmouth Cancer Center, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the Department of Molecular and Systems Biology—have published a new study titled, "Continuous DNA methylation deconvolution-based surrogate for B-cell differentiation state in chronic lymphocytic leukemia."

The research team developed a novel metric, the B-Index, to capture chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) along a continuous spectrum of B-cell differentiation, reflecting the many developmental stages from which CLL may arise. The study found that the B-Index accurately classifies CLL clinical subtypes with 98.8% accuracy, exhibits a stronger epigenetic signal than IGHV gene percent identity, and reveals additional biological variation within established clinical subgroups.

These findings provide a more nuanced understanding of CLL biology and may help advance future research into disease classification and progression.
