A University of Illinois Chicago study led by Dr. Julia Anglen Bauer, UIC professor of epidemiology and biostatistics and former T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Dr. Margaret Karagas Lab, used artificial intelligence to analyze developmental data from preschoolers in the New Hampshire Birth Cohort Study.
“Artificial intelligence offers a new approach for understanding population health,” she said. “Instead of sorting people into rigid categories, we can explore the full spectrum of variation and see how factors like environment, sex, and family dynamics come together.”
Bauer emphasized that collaboration between scientists and clinicians is crucial to turning data analysis into action and hopes to apply AI to other complex data, including diseases, health outcomes, and environmental exposures across diverse populations.
