A recent study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association led by Elizabeth Anderson and Dr. Caitlin Howe examined whether elevated blood pressure during pregnancy is associated with changes in circulating miRNAs. They found that high maternal blood pressure during pregnancy, including in the subclinical range, was linked to altered levels of placenta-expressed miRNAs involved in vascular inflammation, oxidative stress, and placental function. In addition, participants with chronic hypertension had higher levels of miR-1185-2-3p, which has been implicated in preterm birth and arterial stiffness. Full story here.
