Rena Shi presents at Wetterhahn Science Symposium

Rena Shi, is an undergraduate student, D'26, and is mentored by Dr. Jennifer L Meijer. Rena recently presented at the Wetterhahn Science Symposium on 5/24/23.

Rena's preliminary work found that approximately half of women in the New Hampshire Birth Cohort gained more weight during pregnancy than the Institute of Medicine Guidelines. She will be continuing to work with the Cohort to see what nutrients and types of food may be playing a role in excess gestational weight gain. Her summer goal is to create recommendations for improving nutrition during pregnancy in Northern New England and incorporate those recommendations in local clinics. Her future work will assess how specific nutrients are related to neurodevelopment in the baby.
