6:30pm<\/u><br \/>\nDiscussion on\u00a0<em>Black Men in White Coats (BMWC)<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><strong>with Dr. Dale Okorodudu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Black Men In White Coats is a movement to support young African American men and boys who dream to become Medical Doctors. BMWC was the vision of Dr. Dale Okorodudu, who launched the BMWC website six years ago after seeing a 2013 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report that the already under-represented percentage of black men in medical school was decreasing. Dr. Sackey also spearheads Tufts\u2019 commitment to promoting diversity and equality in the health science professions by working to recruit and graduate people with backgrounds that are underrepresented in the field. She also manages the school\u2019s \u201cpipeline\u201d programs, which work with middle and high school students as well as college students to increase minority students' interest in and inspire young people to consider the fields of medicine, biomedical sciences, and health professions. Dr. Sackey will discuss her journey in medicine as a black woman and how these experiences have shaped who she is today. Through it, participants will learn the principles of practice, develop their own mindfulness practice, and apply principles to daily life. They will learn strategies to skillfully work with thoughts, emotions, and sensations. Through guided meditations and mindful movement, they will develop their capacity to enhance mind-body awareness of present-moment experience.
