This panel will feature: Dr. Rian Hasson, MD, Thoracic Surgery; Dr. Kevin Kwaku, MD, Cardiac Electrophysiology PhD; Dr. Matthew Mackwood, MD, Family Medicine, MPH; Dr. Charles Thomas, MD, Chief of Radiation Oncology. Moderated by Dr. Erika Brown, Dean of Faculty Affairs at Geisel with introductions from Falen Demsas and Dr. Erick Lansigan, Interim Dean of Diversity, Inclusion, Community Engagement.<\/p>\n Did you miss the MD panel?\u00a0Watch a recording here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Please join us<\/a>\u00a0for the first ever SNMA, LMSA, and qMD crossover night. We will be screening the documentary Paris is Burning<\/em> that highlights and chronicles the ball culture of New York City and the African-American, Latino, gay, and transgender communities involved in it during the early-to-late 1980\u2019s. There will also be a discussion afterwards led by SNMA, LMSA and qMD leaders. Pizza will be provided for the first 50 registrants if you sign-up before 2\/4; physical pickup details will be provided after registration.<\/p>\n Our first art series, hosted by White Coats for Black Lives, (WC4BL) will highlight the poetry works of Black poets throughout the generations. This session will be led by Adina Harri (MS2) who will be showcasing Black excellence in poetry.<\/p>\n The Wellness Night will be an opportunity for Black medical students in all phases of training to get together, unwind, and connect. This fun and relaxing event will include a guided meditation and facilitated conversations on wellness and preventing burnout while participants paint. Painting supplies and a wellness basket will be provided to participants who\u00a0register<\/a>. We will be providing 24-hour access to view the acclaimed documentary \u201cShadows Fall North\u201d, highlighting the history of the African American community in NH. How does a state with the motto \"Live Free or Die\" and a celebrated legacy of abolitionism confront and understand its participation in slavery, segregation, and the neglect of African American history?<\/p>\n This presentation will highlight the long history of black students at Geisel\/DMS and the Dartmouth Community at large. Derek Colaizzo (MS1) will lead us through the history of firsts that began here at Dartmouth with a presentation adapted from Dr. Kenneth Williams\u2019 presentation on the same topic last year. It will be an informative insight on Black people throughout the years in the Dartmouth community.\u00a0Come learn and help us celebrate!<\/a><\/p>\n Have you ever wondered about the history and vision behind the Black Lives Matter mural in the Kellogg mezzanine? During our 2nd art series we will have the opportunity to talk with Sam Modder, the artist of the mural about what inspired her to create the piece and why at Geisel.\u00a0Join us (virtually)\u00a0for wine, cheese, and chill vibes. Charcuterie boards will be available for local pickup for the first 30 registrants who sign-up before noon on 2\/18; details on the pickup location will be shared after registration.<\/p>\n Structural racism is a system of power and oppression that structures opportunities and assigns human value based on race. This creates differential access to health care, education, housing, employment, and criminal justice. Racism impacts the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health of people of color. In this talk, Dr. Maybank will discuss how dismantling systems of power and oppression is the work of us all and what the AMA has done and plans to do to advance health equity. Aletha Maybank, MD, MPH, is the Senior Vice President And Chief Health Equity Officer for the American Medical Association. She will be introduced by\u00a0Duane A.
