Medical Student Preclinical Education

  • Flipped Classroom

Our five-week preclinical dermatology course (a component of Dermatology-Rheumatology-Orthopedics) includes an interactive curriculum in which students learn through real-world cases of common and uncommon dermatoses and cutaneous neoplasms.

  • Physical Diagnosis Day

Our clinic hosts a hands-on didactic session with in-person learning of skin conditions guided by residents and faculty.

  • Introduction to Clinical Dermatology: Enrichment Opportunity

This enrichment opportunity is designed to expose first and second-year medical students to the clinical environment of dermatology through shadowing experiences in the clinic, surgical suite, and hospital.

Medical Student Clinical Education

  • Dermatology 501: Clinical Dermatology
    • This is a 2 to 4-week clinic-based rotation during which time medical students work one-on-one with dermatology faculty in their general dermatology and specialty dermatology clinics.
    • Medical students also take part in resident didactic sessions and work side-by-side with residents in their continuity clinics.
  • Dermatology 502: Inpatient Dermatology and Dermatopathology
    • This is a 2 to 4-week rotation that offers an introduction to hospital consultative dermatology and dermatopathology. During this rotation, medical students spend the morning at the microscope with the dermatopathology fellow and faculty learning through the study of biopsies and excisions from our clinic and hospital patients. During the afternoon, students round with our inpatient consult service attending and resident, gaining knowledge about the multidisciplinary care of hospitalized patients with dermatologic disease.
