The Department of Medical Education, the Center for Global Health Equity, and the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding invited Dr. Kara Neil, EdD, to lead a session on “Exploring Equitable Partnerships for Health‑Workforce Development in Africa.” Dr. Neil directs COMS-A, a continent-wide consortium of nearly 200 African medical schools, and is Assistant Professor at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda. She brings more than a decade of leadership in global health professions education, including service as Chief Education, Training & Research Officer at King Faisal Hospital and Vice Chair of Rwanda’s National Ethics Committee.The session examined what equitable partnership in global health professions education requires in practice, using the Consortium of Medical Schools in Africa (COMS-A) as a working case study in African-led collaboration. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in health professions education in Rwanda, this interactive discussion considered where partnership rhetoric and partnership practice tend to diverge, and what closes that gap.
