{"id":255,"date":"2023-08-17T17:16:44","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T17:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/cfm\/?page_id=255"},"modified":"2026-04-13T18:53:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:53:41","slug":"ms-peer-wellness-network","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/geiselmed.dartmouth.edu\/cfm\/research\/chronic-health-improvement-research-program-chirp\/ms-peer-wellness-network\/","title":{"rendered":"MS Peer Wellness Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e439465 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e439465\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n<p>The Multiple Sclerosis Peer Wellness Program pairs people with MS who have an interest or need to engage in activities to better their health and wellness, but do not have access to them or the financial means to participate.\u00a0\u00a0<a id=\"m_4529162692555672941OWAf7fa4adf-ef2f-26f1-b340-5cf22f12613e\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/106L80iKPT_N4tPRjlzhl45BF84Wsocc5\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Click here to read a newspaper story about the launch of the program.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0Developed by\u00a0<a id=\"m_4529162692555672941OWAc1ff2732-da3b-c14e-9f50-306c21f44f28\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/brant-j-oliver-phd-ms-mph-fnp-bc-pmhnp-bc-27347430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Dr. Brant Oliver<\/u><\/a>, a practicing multiple sclerosis specialist, who established the program in 2013 at\u00a0<a id=\"m_4529162692555672941OWAa7dc2fc1-47a8-c4c7-7ecc-30a0ed5e5c13\" title=\"https:\/\/www.concordhospital.org\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.concordhospital.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Concord Hospital<\/i><\/a>\u00a0in New Hampshire, through grants from the\u00a0<a id=\"m_4529162692555672941OWAd2a9bdaa-2329-8712-3bf7-79158215d995\" href=\"https:\/\/msfocus.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><u>Multiple Sclerosis Foundation<\/u><\/i><\/a><i><u>.<\/u><\/i>\u00a0The program pairs participants with people with MS who serve as peer mentors and is directed by a team of peer mentors trained by the\u00a0<a id=\"m_4529162692555672941OWA4c069903-0335-c1e3-e181-a5fbbcf74af2\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nationalmssociety.org\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalmssociety.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>National MS Society (NMSS)<\/i><\/a> and supervised by Dr. Oliver.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of a peer mentor, participants formulate an individual wellness plan and then carry it out with support from the peer mentor over a one-year period.\u00a0 Limited grant funding is also provided to cover costs for activities, resources, and transportation needed to help participants to complete individual wellness plans.\u00a0 In addition, the program also includes a facilitated peer network of current and past mentors and mentees which meets monthly as a peer wellness community to share, learn and support each other in their ongoing wellness journeys.<\/p>\n<p>The program was based at Concord Hospital from 2013-2025 and led by a team of dedicated volunteer peer mentors who have mentored many in the New England MS community.
