Borges, Ph.D.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Chair, Medical Education<\/em><\/strong><br><strong><em>Edward Tulloh Krumm Professor of Medical Education<\/em><\/strong><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A health psychologist with over 25 years of experience in medical education, Borges\u2019 research interests center on medical student and physician career development and the study of factors influencing how students choose a specialty. Her medical education research focuses on medical student characteristics, medical specialty and career choice, student success, team-based learning, and health topics related to medical education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Widely published and the recipient of multiple grant awards, Borges, in 2016, was named a Fellow in the Society of Counseling Psychology, which is under the auspices of the American Psychological Association. She is past president of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdrme.org\/\">Society of Directors of Research in<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdrme.org\/\">Medical Education.&nbsp;<\/a>Active in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), she has served as a member-at-large for the Central Group on Educational Affairs; chair of the Southern Group on Education Affairs (SGEA); &nbsp;chair of Medical Education Scholarship, Research, and Evaluation (MESRE) for the SGEA; and she is currently GEA MESRE chair. She was appointed to the AAMC Careers in Medicine Advisory Board in 2013. In 2011, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Education Honor Society. She has been on faculty and held leadership roles at Northeast Ohio Medical University, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, and University of Mississippi School of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borges received her bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology from Boston University and her PhD in counseling psychology from Indiana State University. While at NEOMED Pokorny utilized her knowledge of vocational theory to develop an innovative career development curriculum and provided guidance and mentoring to students throughout the residency application and match process. Pokorny received the NEOMED Outstanding Service Award from 20 graduating classes and was also recognized with the NEOMED Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award and the Central Group on Student Affairs Outstanding Service Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pokorny has an extensive record of service with the Association of American Medical College\u2019s Group on Student Affairs. She served as National Chair of the Committee on Student Financial Assistance, Vice Chair, Chair-Elect, Chair, and Past-Chair of the Central Group on Student Affairs, and National Chair of the Committee on Student Affairs (COSA). After completing her term as National Chair of COSA, Pokorny was elected Vice Chair of the National Group on Student Affairs and continued as Chair-Elect, National Chair and past Chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to her position as Research Scientist at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth Ms. Pokorny is an Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at NEOMED. Levine is the Clarence Ross Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions for the UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine. &nbsp;&nbsp;She is best known for her work in Team-Based Learning, and is currently the Associate Editor of the TBL collection in MedEdPORTAL, the journal of teaching resources administered by the AAMC. She has published numerous articles, book chapters, and other educational materials on Team-Based Learning, and other topics in medical education. She has provided faculty development for teachers in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and other disciplines nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Levine has been the recipient of numerous honors including the American Psychiatric Association\u2019s Roeske Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education, the University of Texas System Regent\u2019s Outstanding Teaching Award, ADMSEP\u2019s Sierles award for Leadership and Excellence in Psychiatric Education and the AAMC Southern Group on Educational Affairs Career Educator Award.&nbsp; She was the inaugural director of UTMB\u2019s Academy of Master Teachers and is a member of the University of Texas Shine Academy Of Health Science Educators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Levine grew up in Galveston, received her MD from UTMB, and completed an internship in Internal Medicine. She trained in Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine where she also served as chief resident. She returned to UTMB in 1991 and joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. In addition to her responsibilities as a clinician and teacher, she has held many administrative roles at UTMB including Director of Undergraduate Education for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs, and Director of the Office of Clinical Education.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nicole J.
