Chopped

Based on the popular TV show that shares its name, "Chopped" blends nutrition education with hands-on cooking experience for children in the Upper Valley Haven After-School Program. Created in 2013 as Laurie Delatour's Schweitzer Fellowship, the program emphasizes healthy nutrition and promotes good eating habits for youth whose families may be experiencing food insecurity. The children engage in a short lesson on topics like essential vitamins or healthy snack alternatives before preparing their own creations ranging from fruit kabobs to original versions of trail mix. They then present their final products to the group and enjoy a shared tasting. The weekly two-hour service commitment aims to have lasting effects on the health and well-being of the participants.
