Office Apps for iPad

The Microsoft Office iPad apps for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote can be downloaded for free from the App Store on the iPad.

Initial Microsoft App setup

There is one-time login upon your initial launch of an app. This setup only needs to be completed for one of the apps.

  1. Open any Microsoft App for iPad.
  2. When prompted to sign in, enter your NetID@kiewit.dartmouth.edu.
    (i.e. F12345Z@kiewit.dartmouth.edu)
  3. Touch [Next].
  4. When prompted with the Blitz login, enter your NetID and associated password.
  5. Click [Sign In].
  6. Touch [Create and Edit Documents].
  7. The app will open.

Basic Microsoft App Interface

The entry page is similar for all of the Microsoft Apps. To the left are three options:

  • New – presents the user with a blank document or templatesoa2
  • Recent – presents the user with a list of recently opened files within the appoa3
  • Open – presents the user with the option to open a file from OneDrive or other files on the iPad.oa4

Once a document is open, the toolbars will reflect the app being used.

  • A text editor for Word.oa5
  • A formula/table editor for Excel.oa6
  • A text and slide transitions editor for PowerPoint.oa7

Using Microsoft Web Apps from OneDrive (from a Mac/PC)

To edit a file in Microsoft Web Apps,

  1. Within OneDrive (from bwa), select the file to open/edit.
  2. Click the *** icon to open an options menu.
  3. Click the *** icon again to open another options menu.
  4. In this new menu, select Open in Word or Open in Word Online.
    1. Selecting Open in Word Online will automatically open the document for editing.
      Note: You can still Open in Word from the browser by clicking Open in Word within the document header.
    2. Selecting Open in Word will launch Word on your computer if installed.

FYI: Depending on the version of Office in which the original document was created, there may be a few prompts to convert the file before editing.

Using Microsoft Apps from OneDrive (from an iPad)

To edit a file in Microsoft Apps,

  1. Within OneDrive on the iPad, select the file to open/edit.
  2. The document should automatically open in the appropriate iPad app.
    Note: Depending on the version of Office in which the original document was created, there may be a few prompts to convert the file before editing.

Save Files Created with Microsoft Apps on the iPad to OneDrive

Files created on the iPad using Microsoft Apps can either reside on the iPad or be sent to OneDrive. The following instructions outline how to save a file to OneDrive.

  1. Click the back arrow at the top left of the App screen.oa8
  2. Name the document.
  3. On the left, select the location to which the item should be saved.
  4. Click Save at the top right.
