Computer Support

Preceptors are encouraged to use the Geisel/DHMC computer services; they, and the medical students in outpatient rotations with whom they are working, have access to the same computer resources as members on the Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) campuses.

To access many of the resources you must have an active account with Dartmouth. The Dartmouth Name Directory must be activated before you are allowed to use many services. If you have an email account but can not recall your password, please contact Geisel Computing Services at 603-650-1600 or email them at geisel.computing.support@dartmouth.edu.

The Dartmouth Name Directory (DND) controls access to many Dartmouth resources; there is also a Hitchcock DND. Depending on your needs, you may have to have accounts in both directories. If you have an email address that ends in Dartmouth.EDU, you have a Dartmouth DND account. If you have an email address that ends in Hitchcock.ORG, you have a Hitchcock DND account. If you are a new preceptor or student, and have the slightest doubt about the existence of your name in the DND, please contact the OCER for assistance.

The BioMedical Library provides online access to MEDLINE via OVID and many other reference materials. To order articles through the library you must have Kerberos downloaded on your computer. Some materials are available directly from the library and others are available through links on the library site. Materials handed out at library-sponsored workshops and courses are also available.

D-Hconnect is offered to our colleagues that refer patients to Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
This service provides the clinicians and staff of community-based practices with secure access to Dartmouth-Hitchcock physicians and clinical data on referred patients in real time.
Please Note: If you already have access to CIS through CIS Affiliate or PAIS/IAIS, you do not need to sign up for D-Hconnect.

COOPTALK is an Internet e-mail discussion group for primary care doctors in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. This "LISTSERV" is an easy way for community physicians to get a hallway consult from colleagues - even from remote sites. Send Chris Richardson the email address you want COOPTALK to come to, and your name (first and last).
