Family Medicine Predoctoral Grant (2008-2011)
Principal Investigator: Cathy Morrow, MD
Funding Agency: Bureau of Health Professions

The Family Medicine Predoctoral Grant addresses three gaps in the current health care system: 1) knowledge translation; 2) care of rural and underserved populations; and 3) lack of specialty and geographic distribution of physicians. Its primary aims are to facilitate learners' translation of knowledge into clinical care, provide learners with increased opportunities in the care of underserved and rural populations, and promote and support student interest in family medicine and rural practice. Key interventions include instruction and practice in shared-decision making, additional opportunities for learners to increase knowledge, experience, and research opportunities in the care of underserved and rural populations, and enhanced mentoring and additional clinical and research experiences for select students focusing on family medicine and primary care.
