Dartmouth Alumnus Dr. Ross Jaffe Named Chair of Geisel School of Medicine Board of Overseers

Hanover, NH—Ross Jaffe, MD, MBA (DC '80) has been named Chair of the Board of Overseers at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, replacing Bill Helman (DC ’80) who has served in that role since 2011. Helman will remain on the Geisel Board as a Dartmouth College Trustee Liaison. The announcement was made at the Board’s winter meeting in Boston.

The Board of Overseers plays an important advisory role to the medical school and Geisel Dean Chip Souba, MD, ScD, MBA, providing expertise and guidance on several fronts, including strategic planning, medical education, finance, research, fundraising, and academic-industry partnerships.

He has truly been the medical school’s champion during his time as Chair, and has made tremendous contributions to our success, while helping us position the Geisel School of Medicine for a strong and sustainable future," said Souba. "Ross has been an amazing partner on our board and brings a deep understanding of health care delivery and education. I look forward to working with him in his new role as Chair."

Jaffe specializes in early-stage investing in medical devices at VersantVentures, a leading healthcare focused venture capital firm. He co-founded VersantVentures in 1999 after spending nine years at Brentwood Venture Capital where, as a general partner, he led investments in medical devices, drug delivery, and healthcare information systems companies.

Jaffe trained as an internal medicine physician, having attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. He also holds an MBA from Stanford University.

As the new Chair, Jaffe will preside over the next Geisel Board of Overseers meeting May 15-16, 2014.
