Common Good Day Serves Local Agencies

Hanover, NH —Dartmouth medical students fanned out to Upper Valley agencies for the fourth annual Common Good Day Oct. 21. Under the aegis of Dartmouth Medical School's Community Service Committee and the DMS 2008-09 Schweitzer Fellows, over 100 medical students — primarily first and second- years — volunteered their time and energy for area organizations and activities.

The collaborative effort encompassed an array of services, including taking blood pressures outside Price Chopper, doing voter registration at DHMC and running health fair at Rivendell Academy. Organizations served included Upper Valley Land Trust, , Upper Valley Hostel, Outreach House, Good Neighbor Health Clinic, COVER Home repair, Montshire Museum, Upper Valley United Way, Upper Valley Trails Alliance, Hanover Recreation Haunted House, WISE, and the SEVCA Good Buy Store.

Participating students received a Common Good Day t-shirt to wear during the event. A barbecue supper on campus at the end of the day was supported by the DMS Societies and the American Medical Student Association along with the Community Service Committee and the NH/VT Schweitzer Fellows Program.
