Exposure to Movie Smoking Directly Linked to Smoking Initiation Among U.S. Adolescents


James D. Sargent, MD

Dr. Sargent is a pediatrician and behavioral epidemiologist whose current research involves evaluating media and marketing influences on adolescent smoking. He directs the Cancer Prevention and Control Research program at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and is Professor of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School. In addition, Dr. Sargent maintains a practice in general pediatrics at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth and teaches pediatric residents there.

Dr. Sargent received his MD from the Tufts University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his residency in pediatrics at Boston City Hospital. He has been at Dartmouth Medical School since 1989.
