Board of Overseers
The Board of Overseers shall act in an advisory role to the Geisel School of Medicine through the Dean of the Medical School, the President of Dartmouth College, and the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College. Principal responsibilities of the Board are to counsel / advise on matters including, but not limited to, the following activities of Geisel School of Medicine:
- Strategic Planning
- Medical Education
- Medical Research
- Health Policy
- Academic Development
The Board of Overseers will act on behalf of the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College to assess / evaluate / appraise periodically the programs of the School in light of its missions and its relationships to the College and to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The Board will also review the budget of the Medical School.
The Geisel School of Medicine Board of Overseers shall be composed of the following ex-officio members: President of Dartmouth College, the Provost of the College, the Dean of the Geisel School of Medicine, the President of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, the Director of the White River Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the President of the Geisel School of Medicine Alumni Council. In addition, there shall be up to 30 members, including substantive representation from the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees and of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Board of Trustees.
Overseers are appointed for three-year terms, with the possibility of reappointment for additional term(s), at the Dean and Board of Trustees' discretion.
Members of the Board who miss two consecutive meetings of the Board within an academic year will be considered as having resigned, except in unusual circumstances.
Ex-officio members will serve for as long as they hold their position in office.
