35. This is a composite image of high power views through the three zones of the cortex: the zona glomerulosa (A), zona fasciculata (B), and zona reticularis (C) as well as the adrenal medulla (D). The plastic thin section allows for more detailed views of cellular architecture than the previous slide of adrenal gland. Each zone has a somewhat different architectural arrangement of its resident cells, and the cells themselves vary from layer to layer. In particular, note the heavy lipid content of the cells of the zona fasciculata.
