7. This section of pituitary is stained with a trichrome stain that nicely highlights the three different endocrine cell populations of the adenohypophysis. With this stain, acidophils are stained a yellow-orange color, basophils a reddish color, and the chromophobes are unstained. Note the great abundance of acidophils which account for about 70% of the cells in the anterior lobe.
