A low power view of the cortex demonstrates nicely the architecture of this region as the medullary rays, the cortical labyrinth with its convoluted tubules and renal corpuscles, and the interlobular blood vessels are all distinct. Recall that the medullary ray runs through the center of a renal lobule while the interlobular blood vessels mark the lateral borders of a lobule.
